can be in their job search. The more contacts
you make, the more opportunities you will here
about. In today's job market networking can be
one of the most important factors in finding the
right job.
Stay in touch
with people.
Give them a
call or a quick e-mail to let them know you are
in the job market. Contact people you worked
with in you previous jobs. Just because you no
longer work with someone does not mean you are
no longer their friend. Don't let your business
connections become a thing of the past. Stay in
touch with these people. They can be your key to
new employment opportunities.
Develop new
contacts.
Always try to
develop new employment contacts. There are many
ways to do this. You can volunteer in a
charitable organization. Not only does this help
the community, but you can meet new people that
may be familiar with an employment opportunity
that you haven't heard about. Volunteering also
looks great on a resume. Any employer will be
impressed with a resume that includes your
volunteer experience. Join a local club, such as
Lions or Sertoma's. Through relationships like
this, you can gain access to valuable contacts
which you may otherwise not have had access to.
Be friendly to everyone you meet since you never
know who might help you in the future.
Tell everyone
you know that you are searching for a job. Tell
your friends. Tell your family. Tell your friend
friends. Tell your family's friends. They may
know of a job opportunity but won't let you know
about it unless they know you are available.
Make a vigorous
effort to contact as many people as possible any
chance you get. Each and every time you talk to
a new person, let them know you are looking for
a job. Let them know what type of job you are
looking for. If they don't know of an job for
you now, tell them to keep you in mind in the
future should they here of an opening that might
suit you.
You might be
surprised how willing people will be to help
you. You could get a call in a few weeks from
someone you never expected, just to give you
information about an employment opening at their
company.
The more
aggressive you are in your networking efforts,
the more benefits you will receive in your
career search.
The time to
start networking ... is now!
